New Scientist has a good FAQ up; a sort of Eco-Friendliness For Dummies. I was rather disturbed by the subtext of this answer, though:

Can I save the planet by staying slim?
It's unlikely. [...] Perhaps such policies would provide short-term benefits, but in the long run they would be more than offset by the fact that people who stay in shape are likely to live longer, emitting tonnes of CO2 for every extra year of their lives. So being slim may be good for you, but is unlikely to benefit the planet.

In short: save the planet - hurry up and die.

It's a perfect cocktail for me being in a bad mood: a bad night's sleep, woken at 6am by a crying baby, cold and foggy outside and work to do that requires more than a little concentration...and large cans of Red Bull are €2.20.

And yet, I can't help feeling a little chipper this morning.

On the subject of Gmail; you seen Goggles? It is a beautiful, beautiful idea, methinks.

It's a good principle but I don't think my maths skills would be diminished enough to stop me from sending a drunk mail. If I can spell while drunk (and I can), then I can surely do simple arithmetic.

Perhaps an experiment is in order.

I suppose I should have pointed out that, while I can spell perfectly while drunk, I tend to have issues transmitting that information to my fingers ("I'm perfectly sober, Officer; it's just my body that's drunk"). The only difference between my drunk posts and a classic drnuk pots is I use backspace a lot. Can't confess to ever having tried maths, although I have seen anecdotal evidence that suggests there would be difficulties. I guess the Goggles time limit would be my undoing.

What browser are you using that the preview isn't working on?

      About

This is LeSinge.org v3.0. It's on its sixth* server since I registered the domain name in November of 2000 and it has gone through several drastic facelifts in that time, usually prompted by some cataclysmic event like someone deleting a load of files they shouldn't, or a server being shut down. This is the maddest layout yet; I'm trying to fit the entire weblog (apart from diary archives and the gallery) into a single loading page using all sorts of PHP-generated DHTML jiggery-pokery. The idea is to make it more inviting to look around since there's no loading between "pages". It's still a work in progress (more a proof of concept than anything), so be patient!

I'm Dave Whyte, an Irish CS graduate, German speaker, linguist and incredibly talented web developer. I'm originally from Fermoy but I now live in Newbridge with my wife Beth and our son. I'm currently working for these fine folks and enjoying it greatly.

      "The Monkey"? Eh?

My nom de guerre comes from an old Eddie Izzard comedy sketch.
